While the majority of moviegoers chose to escape to a galaxy far, far away, a bevy of films exploring alternate destinations helped give Hollywood some healthy holiday box-office returns.

Walt Disney Co.’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” held the top position at the box office for the second consecutive weekend, with an estimated $72 million in the U.S. and Canada. Audiences continued to flock to the movie marketed as the long-awaited climax of the Skywalker saga that first began more than four decades ago.
