As the nation’s largest city began reopening Monday morning after more than two months of lockdown, New Yorkers expressed a mix of trepidation, bravado and relief about this first step toward getting back to business.

With the city hard hit by coronavirus, many residents have spent weeks abiding by state guidance to stay home as much as possible. But Monday, construction, agriculture, manufacturing and wholesale trade sites were allowed to resume operating. Retail stores could also offer curbside and in-store pickup.
