Coronavirus cases in Montgomery, Ala., are rising rapidly, and hospitals say they are running low on available intensive-care beds, as the state of Alabama further relaxed restrictions in hopes of jump-starting the economy.

Confirmed cases of the virus in Montgomery County have risen 35% in the past week to more than 1,050, and the number of deaths tied to Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, has risen to 29 from 20, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
