LONDON—China’s main state broadcaster, CCTV, abruptly pulled an English Premier League game involving Arsenal from its airwaves on Sunday, putting Beijing in conflict with a second major global sports league.

Arsenal was due to play defending champion Manchester City in the marquee matchup of the weekend, two days after club star Mesut Özil criticized China’s internment of ethnic-minority Muslims. Instead, CCTV chose to air a tape-delayed broadcast of Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
