Antimalaria drug hydroxychloroquine didn’t prevent people from contracting the disease Covid-19 after exposure to the new coronavirus any better than those who received a placebo, according to a new large study.

About 12% of people given the pills tested positive for the virus or developed symptoms such as fever or breathing difficulties, compared with 14% of people given a placebo, according to the 821-person study published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.
