After a week that included some of the worst days of coronavirus infections in the U.S., the country saw a slight dip in cases on the Fourth of July as the nation celebrated a subdued holiday.

The number of daily new cases declined to around 45,000 on Saturday, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, following three consecutive days that each saw more than 50,000 infections.
